cartography reimagined
This project was completed through a land art class. This was a study in collecting and documenting the landscape.
I created five balls composed of a concrete core and styrofoam exterior which was cover in a white paper mache. These five balls were all identical and were placed atop a Pete's Hill in Bozeman, Montana. The balls were left unattended for 24 and were then recollected. The balls traveled through the hill. It is assumed that people, dogs, and the elements caused the balls to move. Of the five balls, only one was unrecoverable. The remaining four were then documented and used to create prints. The balls were dipped in paint and rolled onto large canvases. These prints are maps of the balls which are maps of the hills.
